Program: Alberta Rural Entrepreneur Stream
The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is an initiative by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) designed to attract skilled entrepreneurs to rural Alberta communities. This program offers a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to start a new business or buy an existing one in communities with populations of less than 100,000.

Participating Communities
Candidates interested in a specific rural Alberta community should connect with the community contact person to discuss their business proposal and schedule an exploratory visit. Each community has its own process for scheduling these visits and reserves the right to meet only with potential entrepreneurs they deem a fit.
The Exploratory Visit
An exploratory visit is a crucial step in the application process. This visit can be conducted in-person or via web-based video conferencing. During the visit, candidates should:
- Research current market opportunities, licensing, and registration requirements.
- Meet with local business contacts and economic development officers.
- Understand the local business environment and requirements.
Candidates must submit an Exploratory Visit Report with their Business Application, detailing their activities and meetings during the visit.
Community Support
After the exploratory visit, candidates must provide a copy of their Business Proposal Summary to the community contact person. If the community deems the proposal beneficial, they will issue a Community Support Letter, endorsing the business venture. This letter is crucial for submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the AAIP.
